Melissa has lived in Montana for 13 years and in Missoula for the past 7 years. She studied plant ecology at the University of Montana and graduated in 2006. Since graduating she has worked in Missoula in the fields of education, research, monitoring, and restoration. The summer after she graduated she worked on a university associated research project looking at the ability of noxious weeds to compete in plots of increasing native plant biodiversity. During the 2006-07 school year, she was a Visiting Naturalist in the Schools for the Montana Natural History Center, and worked with 5 schools in the Missoula area. The following summer she began work for the Bureau of Land Management at the Missoula Field Office as a Plant Ecologist for the Fisheries Department. For this position she monitored riparian habitats on public land and helped on stream restoration projects. She is very excited to be involved in educating Ravalli County students and land owners on noxious weeds. |
